Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky - review

"Atelier," the French word means "workshop." It comes from a French learning that fans will love. After the Arland series, Gust moves on the next Atelier world. The world of Dusk was published by Tecmo Koei. The company have published it in NIS America's stead or have the former company publish it. Japanese fans and players around the country love this niche JRPG game. What's this niche game's about? Let's read the review, ladies and gentlemen.

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is the next Atelier game in the Dusk series that has two protagonists. It was considered as the first half of the sequel to Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk. However, it wasn't the final game in the Dusk series.

Welcome to Colseit:

Colseit, a small town where people and animals live together in a joyful and rustic harmony. The town has a few houses, a plaza, the urban area and other various places. It wasn't that big of a town, but they are some farms in Colseit. This is the town you will be living.

Introduction:

The game has two protagonists. Escha Malier is a female protagonist who uses a staff in combat. She uses a cauldron to synthesize various goodies, as well as rare goods. Her specialty is using a cauldron. She's not the only alchemist around town, but another alchemist is here with her.

Logix a.k.a. Logy is a male protagonist who uses a sword in combat. He never did alchemy before, but he uses a blacksmith's tool to make and imbue weapons. In fact, he's the new person in town. Him and Escha are both alchemists.

Synthesizing:

You can synthesize in the cauldron. The cauldron is only used by Escha. You will only need to find the materials to make various goods. You just need to follow the recipes and so on. When the recipe lacks an item, you can't make it just yet until you find the right material outside of town. When you get the necessary materials, you just give it the material's elemental effect. Be sure to watch your cost points. A lack of CP will sometimes cause the synthesis to fail. After the synthesis is complete, you give the item properties that can buff up goods using property points. Synthesizing is time consuming, so plan carefully

Imbuing:

The same thing as synthesizing, but making weapons. The blacksmith's tool is only used by Logy. You just do the same thing like on synthesizing, like following the recipes, giving an elemental effect, and giving the weapon's properties.

Completing Assignments:

Marion, a manager wants you to finish at least one major assignment. You can finish as many assignments as possible before the period ends. When the star count reaches 10, the assignment is completed. The assignments are combat, gathering, exploring, etc.. Once you have completed a major assignment, you will have free time until the period ends, but don't forget to do the final report. You can make a line that is diagonal, vertical or horizontal after completing a certain number of assignments. The assignment book reminds anyone of a BINGO game.

Taking Requests:

If you want a request, you can talk to the man of the administration office, which is Solle. He can give you requests. If you see the "Report" sign at the beginning of the request, you can easily complete it without undertaking it. Make sure you pay close attention to the deadline or the request is expired.

Gathering:

On the outside of town, there are some gathering points that are found. When you get to the gathering point, simply press X to gather materials. You can gather as many materials as you can, but not too many because your basket has a capacity of a certain number. When you return to town, you put the items from your basket to the container. The container don't have a capacity since it's a big box.

The Gameplay:

The combat system can hold up to 6 people. 3 on the front and 3 on the back. The back group is a support that can help out the front group. Remember that action from Mana Khemia? When the person is in the back, he/she recovers HP (Hit Point) and SP (Skill Point) as time passes. Make sure you switch by going to the switch command before the person dies.

The gauge on the lower right corner is the Support gauge. When you have at least one level of the gauge, just do any action and quickly press any button before the buttons disappear to start a Support Attack. Or if you decide not to use the Support Attack, just press the circle button. When you have at least a little bit of the Support gauge, quickly press any button to do a Support Guard, or just cancel it with the circle button. When the damage rate reaches, 200%, you can do a Special Support Attack. Keep using the Support Attacks until the rate reaches 200%. When it does, a "Special Support Attack" phrase flashes and press one button quickly, and it doesn't require SP, but skills can consume SP, and they can be used in the Skill menu.

When the characters reach Lv. 30, they are able to use the finishing move. They are very powerful moves that can finish off a character. To perform one, just fill up the Special gauge by doing actions until it reaches 100%. When it does, a "Special" command will be shown. Just go there and watch the special unfolds. A character-specific jingle will play when there's one enemy left with a low HP on the battlefield during their special. In fact, they are like Corporeal Magic Attacks from Blue Dragon. However, Escha and Logy don't have a Special.

Field Events:

The vertical gauge is located below the time and it can be filled up by fighting or gathering. When it reaches at least 100%, press the right, left and down direction pad. Tough monsters, documents, land changes, etc. are the field events.

The Conslusion:

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is a niche JRPG for fans that will not hate on. Luckily, there's not a 3-year time limit in sight, which is a good thing. Though I would call it "perfect" because in total, I'm loving every second of this niche JRPG! Like I mentioned before, it's the first half of the sequel. If you're an Atelier fan, then you would love this game. If you prefer to give it a rent as possible, it's fine.

Pros:

+Awesome gameplay experience
+Not a 3-year time limit
+Perfect music quality

Cons:

There are no cons

I gotta say, this JRPG game is quite the excellent quality. The game is awesome and has some things I'm getting the hang of. I'm intrigued by the gameplay and everything. The problem was, there some things that are pain to do, but it doesn't matter because it's going to be easily given a solid and perfect 10 and I'm definetely looking forward to the next game in the Dusk series. One of the most niche JRPGs that get me to the end.
