RGR Best of 2014

Happy New Years Eve, RPG fans! Because today is the 365th and final day of 2014! Are you having memories for your gaming of 2014? Good, because tomorrow, we are moving on to 2015, with upcoming RPG games itching to be released! Since it's the final day of 2014 we are giving you the best of 2014 with memories of gaming. Let's kick it off with the best thing I had in 2014.

First off, at the beginning of January 2014, I have did an accurate list of games that are coming soon, However, it had a few games that aren't released this year so as for next year, that list will have all RPGs that will release in 2015. So far, this year's blockbusters are a hit! So as for next year, which is tomorrow, they will be the same. However, like on this year, January didn't have any RPG releases. Expect them to be released in the coming months after January!

RGR Gaming Goal Update - 12/26

Well, it's been a few months since I updated the gaming goal, so today's update is here. But I had some bad news. Seems like the remaining games that I haven't played are a darn chore to play, so I'm going to abort the main goal and get back to my regularly scheduled gaming program, while I give you the information about next year's goal. The Gaming Goal 2015 will have RPGs that I'm going to pick up, as long as they are not a chore, but fun to play.

Also, the goal for next year will be easier. As 2015 is getting closer and closer, this year is almost over. However, the coming January didn't have any RPG releases, like this year, so hold on tight until February.

Finally picked up a WiiU this year!

After two years since the WiiU is released, I have finally gotten myself a WiiU for Christmas, and I have set it up in my room the proper way. I've been wanting a WiiU for years, and it's finally happening! Now, a WiiU is a latest gen console that results as an upgrade to the original Wii. Plus, I followed the directions on how to hook the WiiU up by using my head.

As you folks know, the WiiU was high demand when it was first released. I shall think Nintendo's great perseverance. The manufacturer didn't have that much RPG games, but that don't matter because what matters is wanting a WiiU.

Fortunately, we have an upcoming WiiU exculsive JRPG game from Monolith Software coming next year, Xenoblade Chronicles X. This game is not a direct sequel as they speak, but it's a connection to the original Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, which I never played. Xenoblade Chronicles X will have the gameplay similar to White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy XII. The game is in the final stages of development right now. Since it's a Nintendo-exclusive JRPG, it'll be daytime-evident unlike Sony's nighttime-evident gaming.

So, for the time being, if you're looking for a challenge and want to be friends with me, be sure to add me as "JT1994," my Nintendo Network ID. Although I didn't get the white one, but I did get the black deluxe set that comes with Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land.

When Microsoft will keep their act together?

If you want information about why Microsoft needs to keep their act together, then you're in the right place to know about why Microsoft needs help. When the very first original Xbox was released, Microsoft has RPGs so far. The project is Fable, a WRPG as an Xbox-exclusive. So far, Microsoft has more WRPGs, than JRPGs.

After the JRPGs are released on the original Xbox, the series from Japanese companies that did RPGs are dead, until then. The very first Fable is only for the original Xbox. It's a WRPG, but it's a Microsoft exclusive. I'm personally not too keen on WRPGs, but there might be some I might pick up.

When the Xbox 360 was first released, the folks from Japan have supported Microsoft so far. After that happened, Microsoft lost money in a failure way. That may be a heckhole and stupid. When Tales of Vesperia was released for the Xbox 360 in 2008, Namco Bandai has a "slump" that causes Microsoft to lose their act and let the Tales of series to die. Because of that situation, Namco Bandai, the Tales of team will never support Microsoft again. It was sad, but it happens. There's also a PS3 version, but never releases to the west.

Regardless, the Tales of team is not the only one who never want to support Microsoft. There's also other companies that'll never support the manufacturer. The Record of Agarest War series were made by Idea Factory and Compile Heart. They were the two companies that sadly stopped supporting. So far, two games of the series aren't exclusive, but the third game of the series is basically a Sony-exclusive since the two companies stopped supporting the Xbox 360.

There's also another JRPG that is done by Namco Bandai, but not the Tales of team. That game is called "MagnaCarta2." I remember playing it. I haven't gotten that far because the game is too buggy. The screen sometimes goes black after switching characters. When I tried to restart it, it's still there! It HAD to bug out because the team who made MagnaCarta2 went off the charts. I recall someone playing it, and someone didn't encountered any glitches. Maybe it wasn't the company that went off the charts, they forgot to patch it in, or my TV is faulty...

Also, there are RPGs that are exclusively for the Xbox 360 from Mistwalker, like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. They have the western appeal with a little Japanese touch. As far as I know, the act of Microsoft was paid off with Mistwalker, which is basically a Japanese company.

When the Final Fantasy series continue, Square-Enix starts supporting Microsoft for Final Fantasy XIII, the first game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. FFXIII actually has a western appeal that is an RPG game. Square-Enix has a green light on the XIII saga. In the beginning of February this year, Lightning Returns releases to the US. I didn't get that far because of the real-time system, which is stupid. I wish I didn't get my hopes up for it.

In November 22, 2013, the Xbox One releases in a high demand status. So far this year, the Japanese comanies that did RPGs still didn't have any Xbox One games because of that situation. That really upset fans, even me. That makes me sad that we aren't getting any Tales of series for the Xbox One.

However, there's a Japanese game that is an action/adventure game, the Warriors series. They say that the Warriors series are big in Japan, not in the west. Well, there's a little bit of a western appeal. I'm not into the Warriors series much, but little did I know, but the Warriors series doesn't seem to affect Microsoft at all because action/adventure games are between the west and Japan.

Now, Microsoft needs to keep their act together after they lost money by letting the Japanese companies support them. So if this happens, they need to keep their act together to avoid losing money. That's what really upsets anyone who didn't understand the support. Because over the years, Microsoft kept their act together in the past. If the Japanese companies claim to stop supporting Microsoft, then the act is not together.

I'm not saying that Microsoft should know what mess they are in. Also, I'm not saying that they are in trouble because they didn't keep their act together. The reason why they need to keep their act together was because every time the Japanese companies support Microsoft, the manufacturer will lose money. That's not how they kept their act together. So basically, that will never happen again.

Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 - #1: Fairy Fencer F

The 5th and final day has finally begun. The final day of the Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 has the #1 best RPGOTY ever. Let's end things off with the #1 game, Fairy Fencer F. You remembered that the game has knights and warriors called Fencers, while the magic weapons left behind by the Goddess and the Vile God are Furies, right? Good, because you need to understand the story with a lot of plot.

I personally don't intend to compare events outside at this point, but I'll give you an exception. Let's say Fairy Fencer F has the Tenkai Knights plot because of shapeshifiting into Fury Mode. However, I do have intentions of referring them as "Tenkai Fencers" because they have the Fairize ability similar to Titan Mode. That made me want to enjoy it, but I didn't force myself to beat it. I took my time enjoying it while I can, then I have beaten it with taking my time.

The females of the game have hairstyles inspired to Wander Over Yonder's planet display zoom in at the beginning of each episode. Well, some, including "The Enemies." That is with the fast zoom in, of course. The game has a evolved version of Hyperdimension Neptunia's battle system, their English voices are great in quality and it was a nighttime hit, and I'm loving it so far! In fact, it was so nighttime evident that the sequel Advent Dark Force is coming next year as a PS4 exclusive! All that Tenkai Knights plot are affecting the fans in the world.

There's only one thing, though. I can't spoil the story, but I'll make an exception. The deja vu will occur after Tiara dies in the first time. During the deja vu, Ethel will join your party in Sherman's place. It's not that bad as Bravely Default's deja vu, though. Heck, it reminds me of Beowulf. That is until that "patrol" of Quarton for the Corekai.

While I officially stated that Fairy Fencer F as #1 RPGOTY, I'll give you quick information about the PS4 exclusive sequel Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force. The sequel will have Fang and the others, and two new characters, instead of three, you will have a party of four. Also, it'll have even more Tenkai Knights plot, also some Wander Over Yonder plot too...

That's all the information I had above, because more information for the sequel will be revealed soon. We will keep waiting for more.

Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 - #2: Tales of Xillia 2

The top 5 list continues today, as Day 4 honors the #2 RPGOTY. Today's #2 RPGOTY will be Tales of Xillia 2, a sequel to the original Tales of Xillia. The moment it came out, I made sure that I was one of the first people to order it on day one as well, unlike the first one. Because of the great perseverance, Namco Bandai entered a phase when they entered a slump after releasing Tales of Vesperia in the west in 2008 for the Xbox 360.

When that happened, I recall that Vesperia for the Xbox 360 was a darn fail because of the story and the series is no more, which I wasn't happy to oblige. Little did I know, but however, the PS3 exclusive revived the series. The first Tales of game for the PS3 was Graces, which I played before and loved it.

Tales of Xillia 2 is a delightful RPG. The battle system is a lot more .hack-esque because of Ludger changing weapons, the transformation stage, etc. The characters' English voices have great clips and perfect translation of the Japanese voices. The first one celebrates Tales of's 15th anniversary, and officially releases to the west last year. It was a long wait until then. The Collector's Edition has a statue of Ludger, the art book, etc.

Since I have Tales of Xillia 2 in the #2 spot, the #1, the best RPGOTY is up next and will be revealed tomorrow. What's it gonna be? There's no telling what it is.

Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 - #3: Demon Gaze

It's time to begin Day 3 of Top 5 RPGOTY. Today's #3 game will be a dungeon crawler RPG, Demon Gaze. The moment it releases, I have ordered it in day one, like I did with others. Also, I made sure that I was one of the first to enjoy the game. Except there's only one thing I hate so much. Once you get back to the inn, you need enough money have to pay the rent, which is just stupid and this is just blunt. But there's one good thing, though. There aren't any annoying FOEs like on Etrian Odyssey. While Demon Gaze is similar to Etrian Odyssey, the combat system isn't fully animated. The enemies are in a 2D model.

My team has paid off because I strengthened it up. It was a delightful dungeon crawler RPG, but not as delightful as Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, though, but with an exception of FOEs. I'm personally not to keen on FOEs, unless if I'm confident in my strength. At least the Demons are handy to use. Really, if I'm going to enjoy those dungeon crawlers, then don't get me too worked up.

As I'm stating Demon Gaze as #3, the #1 RPGOTY, the best game of the year is getting closer and closer. The #2 game will be revealed tomorrow.

Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 - #4: Bravely Default

It's now time to start Day 2 of Top 5 RPGOTY 2014. Today's #4 RPG will honor the Nintendo-exclusive game called Bravely Default. As you guys might not know, Bravely Default is a most popular game made by the Final Fantasy team. The moment it was released, the rental date pushed back to a later date, but I was able to order it to start the year full of blockbusters.

Now, as you may know, I'm a Final Fantasy fan and I play the series. Ever since Bravely Default releases, it was high in popularity because they waited 3 years to play, including me. There's a minor flaw, once you get the main thing done, deja vu will occur until you reach the end. The side quests are just a pushover to clear because they are sub stories that are a part of the story. That is until that "deja vu" occurs until the end. It may be humilating, but you need to get the hang of it.

So if you had a 3DS, then I can highly recommend it to anyone. A sequel called Bravely Second was announced, and I'm definetely looking forward to it. That stated, I have stated that this 3DS game Bravely Default is RPGOTY #4. Tomorrow, RPGOTY #3 will be revealed, so don't touch that remote.

Top 5 RPGOTY 2014 - #5: Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

In this moment, we've had one heck of a crazy year. Thanks to the moment, we had fun playing and beating those RPG blockbusters we love. This year, there aren't any RPG games to release after today's release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix. We are so sad that there's aren't any RPG games to release this year. But we don't have a reason to be sad because there are more RPG games to be on store shelves and be rentable next year. Next year, we are going to see The Awakened Fate Ultimatum, Persona 5, Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation, Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force and a lot more blockbusters to hit stores next year.

Now, since I have that out of my system, it's time to start this next Top 5 list, RPGOTY. Time to kick it off with today's #5 game, which is Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, an Etrian Odyssey-style game that has the cast of P3 and P4. The one thing is that the P3 cast is filled with DP action, while the P4 cast is filled with BW action. The characters are in a miniature form that is also seen on anime cutscenes. The battle system has a catchy music and it's similar to Etrian Odyssey. The only thing I don't like are those darn FOEs that are annoying to deal with.

Also, this game has those redundant events, including "Junpei's Believe It or Don't!," Junpei's story that ripped off  "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" that has scary events. As far as I know, I was impressed on how this gross story became such a tragic event. In the best-case scenario, Pokemon plot will be tolerated in a way. Thanks to the difficulty that lets me continue after my team is dead, I'm prepared for every battle to win, except on FOEs.

Because of that catchy music and Pokemon plot, I made Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth RPGOTY #5. RPGOTY #4 will be revealed tomorrow.
