Record of Agarest War 2 review coming soon!

Good day, RPG fans! When continuing my journey for RPG game reviews, I have a review about Aksys' RPG game Record of Agarest War 2 coming soon because I have ordered it today! It's not just because I played the previous installments before, but it looks interesting and easy to 100% as well. This 11th review continues the reviewing since I currently had 10 reviews to hit the first milestone mark.

Sadly, I'm not the first one to get the game since it's been out 1 year ago and I didn't beat the previous games in the series. Zero on the other hand, I should've put it on Easy difficulty because I'm sick of getting a Game Over like around 10 times! The first one has an Easy difficulty and it's turning out to be bearable. This latest installment was considered as the third one because Zero was the second installment. I had to record that on my Backloggery to show them off, and I hope it has an Easy difficulty so I can beat it quickly with a possibility to 100% it.

Mugen Souls Z

If you're a big fan of NIS' RPG game series like me, then chances are, you should have at least known about Mugen Souls by now. It's a sequel to Mugen Souls with new adventures and new abilities as such. Overall, the sequel's title was called Mugen Souls Z and it's NOT a Dragon Ball Z reference just because it has the letter Z at the end of the title! You can understand. The gameplay has a return of team attacks, TCS (Triple Counter Stops), Mugen Points and more. Mugen Souls Z will hit store shelves in the west, so once it releases, you don't wanna miss it!

Valhalla Knights 3 review

XSEED Games JKS is a company that published those keen RPG games, such as, The Last Story, Wild Arms 4 and 5, Valhalla Knights and more. Marvelous AQL and Marvelous U.S.A. have made this third entry with XSEED. Do you think XSEED would like it when the two Marvelous branches of the same company helped the company? Let's check out the most amazing review of Valhalla Knights 3!

The Setting:

The game takes place in a prison that can increase your HP and SP. Also, it's a town full of various places including the love hotel, a place where you can get closer to any girl you like.

The Gameplay:

At the beginning, you are likely to make your own person. The first step is to choose what is his/her race, the second step is to give your character a look, like giving him/her skin color, a hairstyle, body filth and more, and the third final step is to finalize your person. Like other games, you can choose what class you're comfortable with. Also, you can make more people for your team. It even had an opportunity to give your team name. You can call your team Mad Servants because Veronica Bartess is the temporary leader of her team, she had a husband who dumped her so badly, and now, she swears vengeance upon him.

The gameplay looks different than the previous installments on the series, because if you touch an enemy, the battle begins with the leader's party. Here, you can have up to 7 people in your party. When attacking the clan's leader first, you will have less EXP, but more items. It's highly likely to attack the leader last. When leveling up, you earn BP (Bonus Points), and they are capable strengthening up your team in the Stats menu. Every time you defeat an enemy, you earn SBP (Skill Bonus Points), and they are capable of learning skills. If you have enough SBP, you can carry over to the skill tree in the Skill menu under Learn.

Here, you can assign skills to the Slots menu. There are 2 command slots; one has a directional pad without the L button and one has a directional pad with the L button. However, skills will consume SP (Skill Points), so use them wisely. Also, it even has passive skills as well.

Like other games, VK3 has quests that you can partake. There are bounty quests that are easy to complete, and they can give you quick cash when you're fresh out of money by buying them like crazy. Every time you complete quests, you will be awarded.

In the battlefield, if your members of the team has a death countdown, you must quickly use a Return Vial before the clock reaches 0. Otherwise, death is upon them. The solution is when your members die, you can bring dead corpses to the church to revive them from the dead, but costs money. The higher the level, the more expensive the pay will be.

Unlike other games, VK3 has a Boost gauge feature and it can be filled up by fighting and parrying the enemy's attack. Once it's full, you can touch the "Boost" symbol and it increases attack and defense. The gauge resets at the end of each battle, so don't hesitate to use it many times.

There's a relationship system that allows you to get closer to any people, including the girls, even in a love hotel. It's highly likely to get closer to girls to increase the relationship. Also, you can give the people a gift.

Pros:

+Superb gameplay experience
+Boost gauge is an interesting feature

Cons:

-Pay for the revive increases is a hassle

Valhalla Knights 3 is not a game meant for everyone because it was rated M for Mature, my favorite ESRB rating with strong language and blood. In the end, I give XSEED's latest game Valhalla Knights 3 a solid 9.0 for superb.

Hyperdimension Neptunia is getting a PS Vita treatment?

Well, RPG fans, it looks like it! Thanks to NIS America's great perserverance of announcing the games with some "anime" stylization and keeping the Vita RPGs going, NIS America's female fanbase RPG game called Hyperdimension Neptunia PP is coming to the PS Vita in the west! Like other games, you are likely to have girls in your party. PP provides players including male Otakus out there with a keen storyline and gameplay to it. Also, new girls, too.

Atelier Escha and Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky

If you're a big fan of the Atelier series, then chances are, you should have at least known about the Dusk world now. It's one of the RPG games that provides Atelier fans out there with not just the engaging gameplay, but a deep and darker storyline as well. Just like on Ever Grace, Mana Khemia 2 and Tales of Xillia, this game has 2 stories; Escha's story focuses on a great and traditional RPG with some deep action. Logy's story has some deep and serious things on focusing on world exploration as well. If you don't know what story to decide, you can use a coin toss. Heads for Escha's story and Tails for Logy's story. Here, the release date for Atelier Escha and Logy will be March 11, 2014. If you're planning to get it, I'll be wishing you luck!

Valhalla Knights 3 review coming Monday

Hello there, RPG readers! I'd like to announce that the review for Valhalla Knights 3 will be coming Monday, so I hope you like it! In the other news, this review for Valhalla Knights 3 will be the 10th review in order hit the first milestone, thus moving on to the next chapter of my journey of reviews!

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review (Part 3 of 3)

This is the final part of the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review. Here, this final part will be about Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Because it has no gameplay, I'm gonna skip the gameplay part since it was ended up a movie.

The Story of 358/2 Days:

Once upon a time in Twilight Town, a young man who was a member of the Org. 13 was named Roxas. In the 7th day, Roxas begins his summer vacation. On the next day, Roxas and another member of the Org. 13 named Axel begins their first helping of the salty-sweet popsicle on the top of the tower. In that day, Xion, a member of the Org. 13 meets up with Roxas. Back at the top of the tower, Her and Roxas are eating their salty-sweet popsicle. In that day, Roxas, Axel and Xion are sitting at the top of the tower, eating the popsicle.

The situation took a turn for the worse when Xion had to turn into Sora. If she didn't, Roxas might die. In the 358th day, Xion kills herself to protect Roxas. And then, Roxas had his tears of joy.

Since this is part 3 of the review, I give Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix a whopping 9.0 for superb.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review (Part 2 of 3)

The Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review continues in part 2. This second part will cover Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. This is a game that was released for the PS2, which was many years ago. Let's read the second part of the review.

The Story of Chain of Memories:

After a decisive victory over Ansem, Sora, Donald and Goofy walk down the trail to the Castle Oblivion. There, they found a mysterious Nobody. Nobodies are a type of people. A Nobody gives Sora a card. With a card in possession, Sora must face a new challenge and a greater foe. Also, a new objective. The objective was to reach to the top of the castle. A new challenge is to use the power of the cards and a greater foe was located on the top of the castle.

The Gameplay:

The game is completely different than the games of the series. Unlike the other games, you are likely to make a room with a card on each world. On every game, Traverse Town is the first world as a home world. Each card has different colors, red cards for attacking, blue cards for magic and green cards for supportive actions including friend cards during combat. There's also yellow cards that are marked as special. Cards can also open new worlds, like Agrabah, Monstro, Olympus Coliseum, Halloweentown, Wonderland and more. Be sure to look out for enemies that are in the map. If you touch an enemy, the battle begins.

Here in the combat system, you are likely to choose a card to play on. If you choose 3 certain cards, you perform a sleight. Sleights are moves that are better than regular attacks because they are powerful. To perform one, choose 3 cards and press the Triangle button. If you had a summon card, you can call forth friends. Here, a Guard Break! phrase flashes when the card you picked has a lower number than the enemy's card and the friend card has a low number. When leveled up, you can choose what reward you like. Rewards are Max CP, Max HP and learn a new sleight. Plus, unique cards or Premium Cards are found after certain battles won.

Unlike the other games, Chain of Memories has Moogle Points that you can spend on the Moogle Room. If you're fresh out of cards when trying to pick the right cards, press the Up directional pad and hold the X button. The countdown increases upon getting a new deck.

Pros:

+Premium Cards are interesting.

Cons:

-Some enemies are annoying.
-Choosing a right card is really frustrating.

News about RPG games for the Xbox One and PS4

The new systems Xbox One and PS4 are going to be released soon, so I have the best news. Some of you have encountered the craziness because the RPG games will be for the Xbox One and PS4. Some of them will hit store shelves on launch day. Overall, there will be more RPG games to be announced, so there will be hope! If the new systems released on launch day, then chances are, you can have gamer quality.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review (Part 1 of 3)

Many years ago, this first game hits the store shelves for the PS2 and this an RPG game has a crossover with Disney and Square for parodic fun. This game is called Kingdom Hearts. It's an RPG crossover where Square and Disney characters join forces and fight evil.

Since Square and Enix combined together to make Square-Enix, the company had a major slump when they did a good job announcing Final Fantasy X-2, an RPG game hits the shelves a long time ago. So what did you think when the now Square-Enix had every piece of information? And how will the Kingdom Hearts universe will have this cool collection? For answers, check out the review.

The Story of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix:

A young man named Sora is living with his friends Riku and Kairi in the Destiny Island. However, a black substance swallows Sora to the unknown world, which is not just a dream, but it's still a dream. There, he came across 3 weapons sword, shield and rod. He uses one weapon and gives up one weapon. He uses a weapon to fight off the spider-like Heartlesses. Heartlesses are one of the bad creatures that goes after the light of the master.

When Sora encountered a storm outside, the spiders of the Heartless species appear out of nowhere. In the area where Riku was at, Sora earns himself the magic weapon that fends off the darkness, the Keyblade. After that, Sora ends himself up at Traverse Town. It's in the other world and it's a town where the adventure begins at.

In the 3rd District, Sora meets up with Donald and Goofy, Mickey Mouse's friends. For the big adventure, they are one for all and all for one! However, in Hollow Bastion, Riku determined that there will be one Keyblade Master and that is him. The main reason why Donald and Goofy abandoned Sora is because of their mission to keep their eyes out for the Key. However, the situation took a turn for the better when Sora informs that he has a weapon is called a heart and the Keyblade returns to him.

About the Keyholes:

When the Keyholes are opened, the Heartlesses come. The reason why the Keyholes are needed to be sealed was so the Heartlesses will be no more.

The Gameplay:

The gameplay and HUD look the same as the PS2 version, but the graphics are different because when playing in 720p, the texture changed. In 1.5 Remix, the green Triangle button command appears at the top of the command list. It was the same feature from Kingdom Hearts II. Also, new cutscenes, color changes and more are in 1.5 Remix. While outside of battle, the command list turns blue while the command list turns red in combat. It has the same thing from the classic .hack//. Unlike the Final Fantasy series, Kingdom Hearts has a different level up system that can offer you one or two things on every level. You may know that 1.5 Remix didn't have Kingdom Hearts II, but it'll be on 2.5 Remix, which Square Enix has finally announced. If you have a Summon stone, then you are able to summon a character. Each of the Summon stone can be used once on every battle. Some has MP. When it reaches 0, they can be dismissed. You can dismiss a Summon character by selecting Dismiss on the list. You are most likely to play as Sora. If you choose the Attack command many times, you perform a combo. There will be abilities and they can be equipped with the right amount of AP. As the game progress, you learn new Magic and upgrade Magic as well. There will also be some brutal attacks called special attacks and supportive techniques that consume MP. The yellow line on the top part of the MP gauge is Little MP. When it reaches a certain point, you earn 1 MP.

Here, Kingdom Hearts has a Gummi Ship, a flying object that takes them to another world. You can edit your Gummi Ship using the measurements. Stars represent how hard the mission will be. Some blueprints are redesigned while some aren't redesigned.

Pros:

+Same gameplay from the PS2 version.
+Awesome combat experience.
+Making a Gummi Ship is very creative work.
+Gameplay quality from .hack//.

Cons:

-Kingdom Hearts' level up system is tedious.

I can't give it a score yet until part 3 of the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix review.

Just ordered Valhalla Knights 3 today!

After a demand and a long wait, Valhalla Knights 3 has finally hit the shelves! I made sure that I was the first one to know more about the game that was released in the 15th of October, but was the second one to get the game. Hey, I don't mind playing second banana since I'm hosting a Tales of Xillia Theme Month in December. I heard Valhalla Knights 3 was an easy game to 100%. If you're a big fan of the Valhalla Knights series, then chances are, I'm expecting anyone of you to enjoy the game by now. Although the third installment has some deep abilities and such. I may be playing second banana, but it's still instant results. Back in 2010, Valhalla Knights 2 was released and since 3 years, the third one was finally released. It was barely a long time, fans, and my RPG tastes are a hit. As for the review about it, I'll cover everything on what Valhalla Knights 3 has to offer. Although I don't have enough money to buy previous installments by the PSP on the PlayStation Store, so I figured that I'm gonna enjoy it as well!

Kingdom Hearts Rundown

Not only I get to play 1.5 Remix soon, I have found something productive that I'm gonna write a rundown about Kingdom Hearts, an RPG game where Square and Disney characters join forces for a parodic and obvious fun. The first Kingdom Hearts game was released for the PS2, which is many years ago. Although you may not experience it, but Kingdom Hearts has some aspects on the Final Fantasy series, as well as Magic and stuff. Disney's characters join well with the characters on Square. Unlike the Final Fantasy series, Kingdom Hearts has a Gummi Ship, a flying object that can take them on a parodic journey. Its gameplay is different than Final Fantasy because during battle, the command list turns red and when outside of battle, the command list turns blue. It has that similar feature from the .hack// series for the PS2, but different.

In the first game, Sora, the main character of Kingdom Hearts, uses a Keyblade as a weapon for the first time and it's capable of lighting the darkness and to make everyone happy once and for all. On Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, you don't get to play as just Sora, but Riku as well. Below is a list of Kingdom Hearts games so far.

Kingdom Hearts games:

Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts II (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA)
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (PSP)
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (DS)
Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded (DS)
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (3DS)
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5/2.5 Remix (PS3)
Kingdom Hearts III (Xbox One and PS4)

These are the Kingdom Hearts games that are announced so far above. If you're a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, then you should have known about it by now while I conclude the Kingdom Hearts Rundown.

Just ordered Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix today!

After a demand for a Kingdom Hearts remake in HD, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix finally releases to the west! I always loved Kingdom Hearts because it's a crossover with Disney and Square-Enix characters for obvious fun. Plus, I made sure that I've finally ordered it and I did it, in a sneaky way during my Backloggiversary today! Thanks to Square-Enix's hard working, we been wanting a Kingdom Hearts HD Collection for years. As you may know, fans, 1.5 Remix has Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and a DS game that was ended up as a movie without any gameplay that is about 3 hours, and that is Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. (Again, I should get the popcorn) I read the news about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix was officially announced and I can't wait for that, too. Here, 2.5 Remix will have Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and the one that was also ended up a movie as well, and that is Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded. With Kingdom Hearts III coming soon for the Xbox One and PS4, there's hope! Sadly, I couldn't beat Dream Drop Distance because it's really a tough game to play and it's a different game that you can switch from Sora and Riku and has a Drop Gauge as a time limit. Worse, I have gotten sashimied by a boss like 5 times! Maybe it was the difficulty I chose if I recall right. But in 1.5 Remix, it's not the case. This is hard to do since it's a collection, so for the review, I'll write it in 3 parts. Part 1 will be Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD. Part 2 will be Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. Finally, part 3 will be Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Just finished Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl!

After a hard battle, I finally managed to beat Etrian Odyssey Untold! Man, that part of it has this effect on me. Wow, just wow. I'm glad I'm done with it after writing an exciting review about it. Although it doesn't have a special treatment or anything, but it's one of the biggest names of an RPG game. I couldn't be the first one who managed to beat it fair and square since SOMEONE beat it in one day. That's impossible! Plus, I would recommend anyone to play this game. Sadly, I didn't have a max level Robin and didn't finish all quests because I'm lazy, but what a great game to play! On to the next RPG game! I wonder what will it be for the next review? Valhalla Knights 3? Lost Odyssey? Time and Eternity? Paper Mario: Sticker Star? Diablo III? Record of Agarest War 2? Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix? Don't know! Since I've rented one of the RPG games to avoid having a "plethora" of RPG games, I'll make an update.

Big news update - about RPG games made by NIS

Hey, what's up, RPG fans? I'm here to give you a big news update. I'm gonna be covering everything up because this is the most exciting news ever! Many of you fans have known that RPG games made by NIS America hit the shelves and they have the biggest names of the titles. So far, so good, we have Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, Atelier games set in the Arland world, Time and Eternity, Disgaea D2, and many more, as well as old games in old consoles. Thanks to NIS America's RPG game making, the company has given us the "anime" reference during nighttime. Although the Bleach game isn't an RPG game. Plus, NIS America's games has the most popular women that I'm gonna add to the Skullgirls: Dark Phantasma wish roster along with stages. So far, my supporting for a new Skullgirls game has 3 new girls and 3 stages. However, the wish roster isn't finished yet. NIS has games that aren't released including The Guided Fate Paradox and The Witch and the Hundred Knights. That is all I can cover. There will be more news coming up soon, so stick around!

Lightning Returns thoughts

Are you guys interested in wanting Lightning Returns? I know I am. As you can see, its gameplay is different than the previous installments of the XIII series and it's gameplay is similar to NIS America's game Time and Eternity. I've played both installments and they are awesome. I can't wait to play it, but it won't hit store shelves until next year and it's a long time! I really want it now, but I can't rush in. Besides, I have other RPG games to play until then. That might make the wait a bit easier. So does my thoughts about it. Sadly, Lightning Returns didn't have party members and a special treatment. But that doesn't matter, though, as long as it's a decent RPG game Square-Enix announced. If you love JRPGs, then I suggest giving you a pass. Well, that ends my thoughts about FFXIII: Lightning Returns.

Valhalla Knights III - out tomorrow

This RPG game called Valhalla Knights III will be released tomorrow. Here in the third entry, it's one of the first games on the Valhalla Knights series that is on the PS Vita that gives RPG gamers not just the deep abilities and such, but a unique and a forgiving storyline to it. If you're a big fan of Valhalla Knights, then you should have known about it by now.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl review

In a long time ago, Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan for the 3DS has finally hit the shelves before Atlus did a major slump and a terrific job on announcing Dragon's Crown. Atlus is a developer that made those fine RPG games, like Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon's Crown, Etrian Odyssey and more. If you are one of the gamers, then chances are, you have came to the right place to read the review of the remake of the series, Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl.

The Story of Untold:

In the beginning of the story, a young male highlander begins his new journey. (A highlander needs a name, so I'll name him Robin.) His name was Robin. He was a highlander in the Untold story. Then, he came across a rural place called Etria. In the middle of Robin's journey, he found new friends Arthur, Simon, Raquna and Frederica. Here, they joined him for an investigation. Although, they are looking for whereabouts about the Millennium Girl during the middle of an investigation.

The Gameplay:

You may not like it, but the gameplay in Untold is a bit different than the previous games and the music is remade. Here, you can have up to 5 people in your party and you can set your characters either in the back line or the front line. You can give your guild and a mansion a name, but it's better not be any offensive content or it won't count. The Labryinth has Stratums and each of the floor has maps you can make. Making a map is a creative idea and if you complete the floor's map, you are able to directly floor jump to a spot. It's a pain that you can't earn money in battle, but if you beat missions from the Radha Hall, you might earn money. The Radha Hall is a place where you can accept missions. Also, selling materials, equipment and items earns you money at Shilleka's Goods. You can accept requests at your mansion and partake side quests at the tavern-like place the Golden Deer Pub.

At the top left corner is your time and it has 4 pictures, dusk, dawn, daytime and nighttime. When it strikes at 07, the time changes. Also, you can take as many time as you can and there's no time limit from Atelier games. In the field, there are FOEs scattered on the field. FOEs are giant monsters. FOE stands for Frantic Ordeal Enemy. Once nearby, a gauge by the circle gauge appears. When it reaches the red mark, you are closer. When the circle gauge turns red, you are expecting monsters. You can either avoid them or show courage and confidence and face them. When a FOE is nearby, it can join in the middle of a battle. The FOE has 3 marks, gray for resting, purple for normal and red for alert. Some FOEs take a step every time you take a step. If you're having any trouble defeating one, you can escape from battle. However, if you managed to defeat one, you earn more EXP. Every time your characters level up, they earn a Skill Point. You can spend Skill Points in the Skill Tree under Custom. Spending a certain number Skill Points opens up a skill. The more points you used on the branch, the better the skill will be. Each branch has a 10 point limit and reaching a max is called mastered.

Plus, there are rare monsters and FOEs. To know it's rare, the monster has a glowing effect. Do not let it escape. If you win against one, you earn more than the usual amount of EXP. Although it may be familiar to you, but Etrian Odyssey has a blue gauge called TP (Not the Tales of series version of MP). It can be consumed by using skills. If your HP and TP is low, you can rest at the Rooster Inn. However, it will cost money. If you have a 6th character in your party, you can use the Switch option to let him/her fight. During battle, a Grimoire Chance! phrase appears ahead of time. It means possessing the power of the Grimoire stone. You can equip or synthesize Grimoire stones in your mansion. Selling certain materials makes a new item and equipment in Shilleka's Goods. It's a shop where Shilleka, the owner gives out items and makes new merchandises. You need enough money to buy any new items. During battle, there's a gauge below the command. That gauge is the Boost gauge. You can only turn on Boost when it's full. During Boost mode, attack and healing rate increases.

The Right and the Wrong:

Untold has its benefits of being a decent RPG game. The right thing is you can give a highlander a new name. However, offensive content doesn't count and that is a wrong thing to do. Defeating the FOEs so easily after strengthening your characters is definetely a right thing to do, but the wrong thing is being easily defeated by them. The wrong thing is not having an Internet Cafe on Etrian Odyssey Untold. However, the right thing is having a pub.

Pros:

+Remade music is catchy
+Rare monsters defeated earns you more EXP
+Boost gauge is interesting

Cons:

-Barely awful gameplay experience
-FOEs are annoying

In the end, I give Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl an 8.0 for great.

Just ordered Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl today!

Back in the first of October, this 3DS game called Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl has finally hit the shelves in the west after Atlus did a great job announcing this game. Prudently, I have the demo version where your level is limited up to level 10 and I have beaten all quests and 100%ed it. So in the full version, it's not the case to limit your level. True that it's cool but I've managed to be the first one to order and rent from GameFly. Once Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, the day when it hits my mailbox comes, I gotta be the first one to play it on my Backloggery. I'm expecting you to get it because it's awesome. If you RPG readers have a GameFly membership, you can rent it or you can buy it from GameStop if you have enough money. After reaching the halfway mark, I'll write a challenging review about it to make it a total of 8 reviews for 2 more reviews to hit the first milestone mark. Although it doesn't have a special edition or a limited edition and I really don't mind playing the normal edition. So, if you love anime-style cutscenes, I would recommend giving you a pass for it.

My RPG reviews are great so far!

Thanks to my responsibility for reviews, my RPG reviews are getting great so far! I have about 7 RPG video game reviews but it's not enough to reach the first milestone mark, so the first milestone mark will have 10 reviews. All I need is 3 more RPG reviews to hit the first milestone mark, thus making this site a little popular!

Tales of Xillia December Theme Month

Hello, RPG friends and fans. It's a great pleasure that I'm gonna host a Tales of Xillia Theme Month in December on the Backloggery site! As you may know, people, the reason why I'm hosting a theme month about Tales of Xillia is because after a long while ago, I've been having a long rant about how mad I was about the Low availability being on it, but last week, I've played it for the first time. If you have a Backloggery account, and if you want to join the fun on the Tales of Xillia December Theme Month, be sure to PM or comment me there, Google Tales of Xillia pictures and look for the one with a character and banner that you're comfortable with. The Tales of Xillia Theme Month in fact, is an event on the Backloggery site where they have profile pictures with one character and a banner associated with the game. The signups are currently open until December, so I need participants for the theme month prior to the month. Below is a list of ToX December Theme Month participants.

List of Tales of Xillia December Theme Month Backloggery participants:

Me (rpgfanboy) as Jude Mathis
NettoSaito as Milla Maxwell
KasumiBlue as Alvin
Ludger as himself

UPDATE: It would appear that SuperSlash won't be able to be a participant for the Tales of Xillia Theme Month in December.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl - out now!

Somehow, I have clearly forgotten that Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl was out on October 1, 2013, so 2 days ago, The Millennium Girl hits the shelves in the west. It's an RPG game where the male protagonist is a highlander. It's a remake of the Etrian Odyssey series and the gameplay to it has FOEs. They are risky enemies that are hard to beat. If you strong enough to beat them, you can give it a shot against the FOEs. Like on the Persona series, you can give a protagonist a name at the start of your adventure. Plus, it even gives you an opportunity to make a map on the touch screen, give your guild a name and other stuff. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and buy it in stores or rent it from GameFly.

That's all the news about it, so as soon as I find some facts on GameSpot, I'll update this as soon as possible.

Tales of Xillia review

Back in 2011, this is the latest RPG game that was announced and have finally hit the shelves in the west this year. Last year, a second entry has been announced, and it will release to the west next year. Do you think that after Tales of Vesperia was released, Namco Bandai had a major slump was because of their games that were outdated? If you are a big fan of the Tales series, then chances are, you have came to the right place to check out the most exciting review of Tales of Xillia! Hope you like it!

Welcome to Rieze Maxia:

Rieze Maxia, a vast land where spirits and humans live together in joyful harmony. However, peace is not going to last that long because a weapon is killing the spirits. This kind of weapon is called a Spyrix weapon, and it kills the spirits. The weapon was called the Lance of Kresnik. It's capable of killing the spirits and it was made by the lab where the Spyrixes were created.

Since ancient times, Rieze Maxia became a beautiful and lush land with spirits and humans. But with the Lance of Kresnik being reborn, spirits are being killed. The two protagonists and the other characters are here to save the spirits from being killed by the weapon.

Introduction:

Tales of Xillia has two protagonists. Jude Mathis is the male protagonist, he's wanting to be a doctor after his graduation from the Talim Medical School in Fennmont. Milla Maxwell is the female protagonist, she's on a mission to destroy the Lance of Kresnik, a weapon made for sucking mana from the world. After a failing to destroying the Lance, she lost her Four Great Spirits Fire Spirit Efreet, Water Spirit Undine, Wind Spirit Sylph, and Earth Spirit Gnome. These are the Four Great Spirits that are servants of Milla.

Tales of Xillia has a cast 6 characters in battle. At the beginning of the game, you can begin the game with either Jude or Milla. (But I recommend beating Jude's story first, and then beating Milla's story.) If you don't know who's story to choose, you can use a coin toss. Heads for Jude's story and Tails for Milla's story. Both stories has some of the same cutscenes, but from a different point of view. Other than the protagonists, there are four other characters: the first one is a young mercenary named Alvin, the second one is a timid girl with a doll named Elize Lutus, the third one is a combat butler named Rowen Ilbert, and the fourth one is a young girl living with Jude named Leia Rolando.

The Gameplay:

Unlike other Tales games, Xillia has a free camera for easy exploring so you don't have to get up closer to the screen. Other Tales games has a fixed camera angle because it allows you to focus on where you're going.

Tales of Xillia has a gathering method. If you see a little light on the ground or wall, it's a gathering point to find materials. Here, you can donate materials by going to any shop and earn the shops' points. If the shops earn a certain number of points, they go up a level and can put new items in stock and give the items a discount. There's also another two ways like donating Gald and buying anything.

Plus, it has missable side quests because they are not a part of the story. The first side quest is not missable because it's a part of the story. To know it's a side quest, some are being triggered in the right place at the right time and others happen after being requested to go somewhere. If you beat a side quest, you will be awarded. Also, if you beat all side quests, you will earn a trophy and a lot of grade points.

All Tales games including this one have skits and they are mini scenes. The title of the skit appears on the bottom left corner after certain conditions and times, and you can view it by pressing the Select button. Also, you can view skits again by going to the Library menu under skits. If you viewed all skits, you will earn a trophy and a lot of grade points.

Tales of Xillia's battle system mimics 2D fighters like BlazBlue and Skullgirls for example because it has side stepping, canceling, air combos, ground combos and more. Here, Tales of Xillia has an AC (Assault Counter) system that works just like the CC (Combo Counter) system from Tales of Graces. In Graces, when the CC reaches 0, you have to back away from the enemy so it can recharge and can attack again. Here in Tales of Xillia, that's definetely not the case. Instead, it recovers almost instantly after your combo ends. Also, artes decrease both your AC and TP at a same time (Tales of version of MP that can be consumed using artes). Like some other games, Tales of Xillia has a multiplayer feature, and you can let 3 people play with you by turning the 2nd, 3rd and 4th in-the-battlefield characters to Manual setting so it'll be fun with the four of you playing the game.

The Link gauge is located on the left side of the screen, and it allows you to link up with another character depending on the directional pad you press. The blue aura is link "A," while the green aura is link "B." To be able to do Link Artes, the gauge must reach the milestones by filling up the little parts of the gauge with fighting. If if does, the top part flashes, and it means you are able to do a Link Arte after certain artes, and when using certain artes, the Linked symbol appears, and quickly press the R2 button before it disappears. When idle, the gauge decreases slowly over time. Once the Link gauge is full, the characters go into Over Limit. During Over Limit, your TP and AC will not drop, and you can do as many Linked Artes as you can until the gauge depletes. If you see the "Chain Chance" symbol, quickly input the artes depending on the characters that has certain artes to start a Linked Arte before the symbol disappears. None other Tales games didn't have this linking feature.

Unlike other Tales games, Tales of Xillia uses a Lilium Orb feature. Once you level up, GP (Growth Points) are awarded. The Lilium Orb is a menu that has a form of a "spider web," and each part of the web has nodes. Each node offers a wide variety of stat increases, artes and skills. If one of the nodes has a unique arte called an Arcane Arte, you are able to do a super cool arte called a Mystic Arte. To execute a Mystic Arte, the Link gauge needs to be in "Over Limit," perform an Arcane Arte and hold the X Button.

During the field, if you touch a monster that is nearby 1 or 2 monsters, it's an Encounter Link from Vesperia. The more enemies you defeat, the more EXP and Gald you earn. That makes it interesting when earning more EXP and Gald.

Like on Vesperia, you can turn on skills by using SP (Skill Points). If you can't use the skill, it means insufficient SP. Skills are abilities that can give characters something interesting, while SP is a count that can turn on skills in the right amount. In Vesperia, you can earn LP (Learning Points) to learn the skills from equipment. But in Xillia, you can definetely learn skills via the Lilium Orb. If you earn max SP via the Lilium Orb, you can get more skills.

Be sure to look out for the monster with a yellow triangle with a ! on its head called the Strong Icon. They are rare monsters that are strong. If you win against one, you earn double the usual amount of EXP and Gald. If you're confident in your ability, try it out!

The best thing in Tales of Xillia was you can earn grade points by unlocking titles, and you can carry your grade points to the New Game +. To unlock it, you need to beat the game. Here in the New Game +, there are various things you can spend your grade points on. If you want to start the game normally, don't buy anything.

The More You Know:

With that being said, Tales of Xillia is the 13th Tales game of the series, celebrating its 15th anniversary. If you love the series very much, then you might be an all-time Tales fan. When Vesperia was released for the 360, the series was dead. That is, until the Tales of game, Graces f has managed to revive the series as a PS3 exclusive. Besides, Xillia isn't the last game of the series because we'll be getting more games, including Tales of Zestiria. However, they are going to be released as a PS4 exclusive since Namco Bandai isn't interested in supporting the Xbox One.

The Best and the Worst:

Tales of Xillia is a must-play game for everyone that will not miss out. The 13th of the series has a lot of fun since Graces f was released. While Vesperia turns out a flat-out fail, the company decides to move on to the Sony consoles. As usual, Tales of Xillia was a flat-out hit. In fact, it was big of a hit that Xillia 2 was released the following year. Fans do not want to miss playing it. Sadly, the battle system in Xillia 1 isn't much, but in Xillia 2, it will be much. Overall, it can be played up to 4 people for multiplayer fun. Both Jude and Milla are great protagonists, and they are a lot of fun to play as.

Pros:

+Linked Artes are interesting.
+Winning against the Strong Icon earns you double.

Cons:

There are no cons

Overall, Tales of Xillia is an awesome game. It's a fun and decent game. Since it was released, I been wanting to play it for months and I was finally able to play it! It is an awesome game that you don't want to miss out on. Thanks to my enthusiasm, I give Tales of Xillia a solid and perfect 10 for prime! Thanks, Namco Bandai, we love your Tales games!
