Record of Agarest War 2 review

Compile Heart and Idea Factory are great companies that did this RPG game. Many years ago, the first game in the series have hit store shelves. If you're a big fan of the turn-based RPG game series, then chances are, you have came to the right place to read the review of Record of Agarest War 2!

Welcome to Agarest:

Agarest, a vast land where nations are divided and the kings and queens set the land in peace right when the war starts. When the war starts, the kings and queens are here to bring back peace to Agarest.

Record of Agarest War 2 has a main character named Weiss. He's wanting to be a demon slayer because demons cause havoc in the world. When he woke up in his dream, a young girl named Aina accompanies Weiss on his travels of being a demon slayer.

Generations:

They are like chapters, but has a section to the story. The game has generations that you can beat. It's something like parts of the story.

The Gameplay:

The game's graphics are different than the previous installments. In this installment, you can walk in a world map. In the field map, be sure to look for the event symbols and they can progress the game. Unlike the previous installments, there are random encounters. Or if you want to start the battle manually, press the R1 button. There are symbol maps and they are a type of maps that has spots with enemies and events.

If you're in a town, there are some events that can decrease and increase a character's affection. If a certain choice is selected, a character can increase or decrease affection. Their affections are just for show and may not affect their stats.

Here, the battle system is different than the previous installments. When the 4 characters are in a formation with a certain spot, their bodies flash red and everybody can attack together. Record of Agarest War 2 has 4 attack types; X for Down attacks, square for Stun attacks, triangle for Burst attacks and circle for projectiles.

If a certain point reaches when making a combo, you are awarded an Ultimate Point and it can give the possibility to perform a finishing move and it can be performed using the L1 button. When the combo reaches a certain point, you are likely to do an all-out Ultimate Attack. During the move, mash buttons as many times as you can until the AP (Action Point) gauge runs out. AP is capable of giving characters actions.

When leveled up, you are likely to give out points to characters to strengthen them up. If it wasn't enough, then use PP (Party Points). PP is a type of point that can also strengthen characters and they can be earned in certain battles and by completing commissions.

Commissions are like quests, but different. If the text was green, it means commission complete, and they can earn you items, G, TP (Technical Point, but not the Tales of series' version of MP, and can needed to buy and learn skills) and PP. Complete all commissions and you will earn a trophy.

The More You Know:

Record of Agarest War 2 was actually a third entry because Zero was a second entry to the series. The series were developed/published by Aksys Games, Idea Factory, Compile Heart and Red Entertainment. Despite being a turn-based strategy RPG, the Record of Agarest War series turns out to play alot like Ubisoft's Enchanted Arms. Also, Record of Agarest War 2 is not for everyone. Since you're not so keen on the series, then this is not for you to play. However, that doesn't mean you can't play it or watch someone else play it.

Pros:

+Ultimate finishing moves are the best

Cons:

-Random Encounters are annoying
-Alluring gameplay experience
-Gameplay looks tedious
-Combat system plays like a lame version of Enchanted Arms

Although Record of Agarest War 2 was an okay game. Sure, the game is too alluring, but not the best game out there. In the end, I give Record of Agarest War 2 for the PlayStation 3 a solid 7.0 for good.
